Mafeking Cubs

Tuesdays 18:15 – 19:45

Mafeking is run by a team of dedicated volunteers with two warranted leaders: Lyn Jarvis the Cub Scout Leader (CSL) and Craig Edgar the Assistant Cub Scout Leader (ACSL) who have been running the pack together since 2010. We are supported, on a regular basis, by Nickie Smith a local teacher and also have Georgina Masham (Young Leader), William (Explorer Scout) and George (Scout) who help on a weekly basis.
We encourage parents to support our meetings by running a rota to enable many of our activities to go ahead. During our weekly meetings we work towards many Challenge and Activity badges, providing the children with life skills and great opportunities to develop their teamwork and leadership skills. We also have lots of fun and laughs along the way.
Every year we try to organise two overnight trips. We have our traditional two-night themed camp in the Spring/Summer which is usually held at Broadstone Warren or Blackland Farm. At this camp the cubs are given the opportunity to try many new activities and many overcome their fears and are thrilled by their achievements. They also take part in many activities with a focus on upholding the traditional values of scouting through activities like fire-lighting, backwoods cooking, wide games, etc.
We also have a trip later in the year with the aim of providing them with a unique and fun overnight stay experience to further their education in a challenging environment. In the past we have enjoyed sleepovers on the Tudor Warship – The Golden Hinde (London), the Science Museum (London), the Natural History Museum (London) and even aboard HMS Cavalier (Chatham). All of these opportunities have truly been an unforgettable experience for everyone!
